High Altitude, High Stakes: Previewing the Mexican Grand Prix

Formula 1 News: 2024 Mexico City GP Preview

The Mexico Grand Prix will be held at the Autodromo Hermanos RodrΓguez in Mexico City. It is the 20th race of the F1 season and will take place from October 24 to 26. This circuit is at the highest altitude in the F1 calendar and is more than 7,350 feet above sea level. Two practice sessions will be held on Friday, October 24, with qualifying on Saturday, the 25th. The Mexican Grand Prix is one of the most colorful and well-attended events on the F1 program.

Getting to the track

Parking is limited in the vicinity of the arena. The easiest way to get there is to use the Metro because the streets are often chaotic. Try online to get some good offers and further tips for getting to and from the track and general advice on traveling in Mexico.

Those who can’t attend in person can watch the race on Sunday, October 26, at 20:00 GMT. Americans love to bet on motorsports and particularly on F1. They won’t miss out on betting online on the Mexican Grand Prix.

A return to an upgraded arena

After being on the F1 calendar between 1963 and 1970 and again from 1986 to 1992, F1 returned to an upgraded arena in Mexico in 2015. In 2015, Nico Rosberg won for Mercedes, and the next year it was Lewis Hamilton who won.

The length of the circuit is 2,674 miles, and it is named after the famous Mexican racing brothers who lost their lives there. A stadium section of the track that winds through an old baseball stadium is always filled with passionate fans. The track features a long run into Turn 1 that allows for slipstreaming. Just as you should drive carefully to avoid accidents, drivers in an F1 race have to drive even more carefully and with great precision.

Track position and tire selection are important success factors, as the track presents relatively few chances to overtake during a lap.

Tickets and packages

Tickets are available for Grandstands 3 to 6 and in the famous Foro Sol stadium section. Fans usually fight tooth and nail for a place at this former baseball stadium.

General admission tickets are reasonably priced, but the grandstand tickets opposite the pits in Mexico cost more than the same seats at other races on the F1 calendar. Official ticket packages for the weekend are available from F1 Experiences.

Successful F1 drivers and cars

Max Verstappen has four Mexican Grand Prix wins to his name. Lewis Hamilton has two wins, as do Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell. Sergio Perez is Mexico’s most successful F1 driver, and the fans love to support him, but he won’t be present on the grid this year. Carlos Santos was the 2024 winner. Lando Norris was in 2nd position and Charles Leclerc came third.

Red Bull has won the event four times, and Lotus, McLaren, Williams, and Mercedes have won three times. The Mercedes W11 is one of the fastest cars in F1, and is often cited as the fastest of all time. However, the McLaren MCL39 is seen as one of the best F1 cars of 2025 so far. It has won five of the first seven races.

Trackside at the Mexican Grand Prix

In 2024, a record crowd of nearly 405,000 attended the race weekend in Mexico City. It offers one of the best trackside experiences. As it’s towards the end of the season, the championship battles will be heating up. The altitude of the track may even lead to an unexpected change in the competitive order.
